Step Up is a American romantic dance film directed by Anne Fletcher starring Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. Set in Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows the tale of the disadvantaged Tyler Gage (Tatum) and the privileged modern dancer Nora Clark (Dewan), who find themselves paired up in a showcase that determines both of their futures. Realizing that they only have one chance, they finally work together. It is the first installment in the Step Up franchise, which includes four sequels, a spin-off film and a television series.
Brothers Mac and Skinny Carter and their best friend Tyler Gage attend a party where they have a fight with their nemesis, PJ. Following the party, the trio break into the Maryland School of Arts and trash the school’s theatre, damaging many of the props. When a security guard appears, Tyler helps the two escape, accepting full blame for the vandalism himself. He is sentenced to 200 hours of community service, which is to be served at the school. While working, he peers in on a dance class and meets Nora Clark, a student preparing for her “senior showcase”, an audition performance which could determine whether or not she is offered a job by any one of the professional dance companies who are attending the performance. When Mac and Skinny pay Tyler a visit on the school’s lot, Nora watches curiously from a window as Tyler dances with his friends, mockingly incorporating a mashup of break-dance and the ballet moves he has recently observed. When Nora’s dance partner, Andrew, sprains an ankle, Nora finds herself unexpectedly without a partner for her routine. Auditioning some sophomore students to replace him, she decides that none meet her expectations. Tyler offers to help, but Nora refuses. However, after Tyler demonstrates that he can handle the routine, Nora reconsiders and convinces Director Gordon to allow Tyler to rehearse with her. During their initial practice session, Tyler is antagonistic towards Nora as well as her boyfriend, Brett, both of whom respond with haughty attitudes. As they continue to rehearse, Tyler and Nora grow closer, each teaching the other about their respective styles of dance. Tyler also befriends a musician at the school named Miles Darby, who has a crush on Nora’s friend, Lucy Avila….
Step Up 2: The Streets is a 2008 American dance film. It is the sequel to the 2006 film Step Up from Touchstone Pictures. The film was directed by Jon M. Chu and choreographed by Jamal Sims, Nadine “Hi Hat” Ruffin and Dave Scott. Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment produced with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot of Offspring Entertainment. Set at the Maryland School of the Arts, the story revolves around rebellious street dancer Andie West (Briana Evigan) who lands at the elite school and finds herself fighting to fit in while also trying to hold onto her old life. She eventually joins forces with the school’s hottest dancer Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman) to form a crew of classmate outcasts to compete in Baltimore’s underground dance battle The Streets, finding a way to live her dream while building a bridge between her two separate worlds. The film was followed by Step Up 3D, released in 2010.
In Baltimore, Maryland, Andrea “Andie” West (Briana Evigan) pursues her dream of becoming a professional street dancer. After her mother died from cancer, Andie moved in with her mother’s best friend, Sarah (Sonja Sohn). Deep down Andie feels like she does not belong anywhere. Although she is doing poorly at school, it is her dream for dancing that brings something special into her life. Andie trains with a dance crew, the 410, to keep the title of an illegal competition, “The Streets”. Sarah is aware of the crime and harassment by 410 and, out of fear that Andie will get hurt, decides to send her to live with her aunt in Texas in an effort to protect Andie, but Andie refuses to go and runs away.
Step Up 3D (also known as Step Up 3) is a 2010 American 3D dance film written by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer and directed by Step Up 2: The Streets’s Jon M. Chu. The sequel sees the return of Adam Sevani and Alyson Stoner, who portrayed Moose from Step Up 2: The Streets and Camille Gage from Step Up. As the third installment in the Step Up series and the first shot in 3D, the film follows Moose and Camille Gage as they head to New York University, the former dancer of whom is majoring in electrical engineering after promising his father that he would not dance anymore. However, he soon stumbles upon a dance battle, meeting Luke Katcher and his House of Pirates dance crew and later teaming up with them to compete in the World Jam dance contest against their rival, the House of Samurai dance crew.
In New York City, Moose and Camille attend the New York University. Moose is majoring in electrical engineering after promising his father that he would not dance anymore. While touring the campus, he sees a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks worn by Luke Katcher, the leader of the House of Pirates dance crew. Moose follows the shoes and then stumbles upon a dance battle, where he beats Kid Darkness from the dancing crew House of Samurai. Luke takes him back to his place, an old warehouse converted into a club, to try and convince Moose to join his dance crew, in which he does team up with. Luke believes that with the skills of Moose and the rest of his crew dancers that they could win the $100,000 grand prize in the World Jam Championships contest to solve financial problems. After all, he is five months behind in the mortgage payments and the warehouse could be put for auction at any second, if they are not paid.
Step Up Revolution (also known as Step Up 4: Miami Heat) is a 2012 American 3D dance film and the fourth installment in the Step Up film series. It was released on July 27, 2012. The film was directed by Scott Speer and stars Ryan Guzman and Kathryn McCormick, the latter from the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance. The film features choreography by Jamal Sims, Christopher Scott, Chuck Maldonado and Travis Wall. The production design was created by Carlos A. Menendez. Unlike the first three films, produced by Touchstone Pictures and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, this film was produced by Summit Entertainment and Offspring Entertainment without Disney’s involvement and distributed by Lionsgate. This is also the first Summit Entertainment film after being acquired by Lionsgate in January 2012.
In Miami, Florida, a flash mob, later identified as “The Mob”, shuts down Ocean Drive briefly by cutting off the streets with retro convertibles and dancing on cars to music blasted by DJ Penelope (Cleopatra Coleman).A few hours later, Sean Asa (Ryan Guzman), Eddy (Misha Gabriel), and Jason Hardlerson (Stephen “tWitch” Boss), the leaders of The Mob, watch their latest flashmob air on the television news in a restaurant kitchen of the Dimont Hotel where they work as waiters. A few complain about their public disturbance, while others praise it. After they get off work, the group sneak into the hotel’s beach club, claiming to be guests, not employees. Meanwhile, across the club at the bar, Emily Anderson (Kathryn McCormick) tries to get a bartender’s attention, but ends up preparing her own beer. Sean, who is immediately smitten by her, asks for a beer with Emily telling him it’s on the house, then heads down to the beach to dance, resulting in a dance battle between the two, but ending with Emily suddenly running off when she sees one of her dad’s business partners, Trip.
Step Up: All In is a 2014 American dance film directed by Trish Sie. It is the fifth and final film in the Step Up series. The film was released internationally on July 9, 2014 and on August 8 in the United States.
Sean Asa and his flashmob crew, The Mob, have relocated from Miami, Florida to Los Angeles, where they are now trying to make a living from dancing, but are turned down at every audition. After being refused at another audition, the Mob visit a club where they are noticed and challenged to a dance battle by another crew, the Grim Knights. The Grim Knights win the battle and the Mob decides to pack up and leave Los Angeles and return to Miami, mostly because of financial difficulties, but also thinking there is nothing left for them and that they are not prepared for Los Angeles.
